Sabden 27-09-2017 – Leader Mike

On a day with a windy but good forecast, Mike led 19 ramblers up onto Pendleton Moor, quickly climbing 500 feet to warm us all up!  This took us to Badger Wells Hill, where we turned east past Deerstones onto Spence Moor.  The views were hazy, but we could see Upper Ogden Reservoir.  Mike had warned us about very soggy conditions on the moor, but in all honesty they were not bad at all as we continued to climb to the summit of the moor at 460 m (almost 1500 ft).  From here we continued eastward, now descending, to our first break in a...

Gisburn 24-09-2017 – Leader Roy

9 arrived in Gisburn for an autumnal walk, following the autumn equinox 2 days earlier, in perfect walking weather. This was a delightful walk through beautiful rolling Lancashire countryside, to include autumn berries and early leaf changes, lush green expansive fields, paths through crops, conker collecting, a liberal sprinkling of farm animals, as well as Roy’s usual share of varied stiles and, oh, a bit of mud. Roy described this as a cheese and onion pie walk, linked to the excellent pies often purchased at the Delicious Deli and...

Adrenaline Hike 20-09-2017 – Leader Dougie

On his first walk since returning from France, Mark turned up in a T-shirt with a camera logo on the front, and got what he deserved, nay – craved – the camera for the day.  Of course, he got his own back by giving yours truly 147 pictures to distil down to 40 – a difficult task, but the results do him great credit.  They also do justice to Dougie’s well-named Adrenaline Hike through what is now called (in marketing speak) the Adrenaline Valley, aka Rossendale Valley.  The combination of nice weather, dramatic...

Unsworth 17-09-2017 – Leader Roy

On a nice morning, with a good forecast, 13 turned out for Roy’s walk today, including two new walkers with us, Janet from Waterfoot, and her friend Pauline, from Burnley.  Janet had spotted our post on Facebook, so that’s one for Carol.  It was also very nice to see Val again, who hasn’t managed to join us for a while.  We hope we see them all again before too long. Roy had warned me in advance that this would be a ‘friends of the M66’ walk, and so it turned out as he led us south to the motorway, passing a...

Burnsall 13-09-2017 – Leader Derek

Against a dismally wet weather forecast, the weather today was beautifully sunny, apart from half an hour or so of heavy rain when we stopped for lunch.  This allowed us to view the magnificent Dales scenery around Burnsall at its brightest and best, so the 22 brave people who turned out today were amply rewarded for their courage.  From the village, Derek led us over the bridge across the swollen River Wharfe, past a cleverly named memorial bench, and then along the bank of the river on the Dales Way.  The water was lapping onto the path...
