Friday 2 June Blackburn to Whalley

On Friday 2 June, Derek (0747 5300 007) will lead a linear walk from Blackburn to Whalley Abbey.  It will be a moderate walk with a distance of just over 10 miles, with around 360 metres of ascent.  Meet at the upper car park in Whitaker Park at 9:00. If you need transport from there, please liaise with other members of the group beforehand to ensure that it will be available.  The walk will commence from the entrance road to Whalley Abbey ~ street parking should be available on ‘The Sands’. [BB7 9TL ~ red pin on map below].  From here we will have a short walk to Whalley Bus Station (facilities available) where we will catch the 9:56 service 22 to Blackburn.

If in doubt ~ ask!

Route: This walk is based on an original idea from ‘Big Mac’, so please do not expect too much!  After a brief look at some modern statues and Blackburn Cathedral, we will make our way to the Leeds & Liverpool Canal ~ I will say no more!  Eventually we will end up walking over Whalley Nab, but perhaps not by the usual route.

We very much welcome new walkers with us, and would encourage you to contact the walk leader beforehand, either to discuss the demands of the walk and what you need to bring, or simply to let the leader know that you will be joining us.

Please note that – for everyone’s safety – you should be sure that you meet the required level of fitness for the walk.  If you are at all unsure of your capabilities, we suggest you try one of our shorter walks, which take place on the third Sunday of most months ~ see Walks Schedule for details.
