Wednesday 30 May – Austwick

On Wednesday 30 May, Ursula (07946 128264) will lead a 9.5 mile moderate walk, with 1300 feet of ascent, from Austwick.  Meeting at the upper car park at Whitaker Park in Rawtenstall at 9.00 am, the walk itself will commence at 10.15 am from the village school in Austwick (SD 76882 68632, or N54:06:47 (54.113038), W2:21:18 (-2.355123) – red pin on map below).  Postcode LA2 8BN gets you close.  Free parking on the streets in the village.

At the recent Committee meeting we agreed to include a walk with a meal periodically throughout the walk calendar.  This is the first occasion on which this is being trialled.  The Game Cock pub in Austwick is able to accommodate us on this date, sitting down at around 4 pm.   The pub’s menu is here, from which you will see that on Wednesdays they have a French night, with 2 courses for £13.75.  The normal menu is also available, and there is a specials board every day.  Of course, the meal is optional.  To give Ursula an idea of numbers, would anyone wishing to have a meal after the walk please let her know ASAP via email, text or phone (07946 128264).

Dogs are allowed only on our Thursday evening walks, if the leader agrees in advance. This is for the safety & wellbeing of all concerned.

Please Note: We very much welcome new walkers with us, but would ask you to contact the walk leader beforehand, either to discuss the demands of the walk and what you need to bring, or simply to let the leader know that you will be joining us.  If you are at all unsure of your capabilities, then ~ for everyone’s safety ~ we suggest you try one of our shorter walks, which take place on the third Sunday of most months and – from May to August – on the first and third Thursday evenings.  See Walks Schedule for details.

Walkers who do not have their own transport should enquire if there will be transport available at Whitaker Park.
