Mellor Brook 13-05-2018 – Leader Roy

A beautiful spring day was in the offing when we started the walk.  Three new walkers joined us, but very soon received an urgent call to return home – a disappointment for them and for us.

Walking towards the River Ribble through woods of bluebells and wild garlic was a delight, especially with the weather improving all the time.  After our first break on the bank of the Ribble just before Osbaldeston Hall, we continued through more woods full of bluebells and wild garlic – a magic moment indeed!  We took our second break just before Showley Hall, now enjoying the lush grassy fields and the fresh smell of hawthorn blossom.

Onwards then to Birley Fold and Wards Farm, on the way passing a garage full of vintage Rolls Royces and an Austin Princess.  Our next reward was panoramic views of the Ribble Valley before dropping down to Mellor Brook.  A grand day out.
