Rose & Crown, Haslingden – 07-06-2018

On another really lovely evening, 23 people and one dog turned out for the third walk in our series.  One of the people was Alex, with his broken ankle, whom I really believed was going to attempt the walk on crutches, but not so.  One of the walkers was a young lady, who was well entertained by David’s 4 or 5 geocache sites along the way, as were most of us.  Some of the group had walked with us this summer already, while others were new.  Word of mouth turned out to be a powerful source for spreading the news, but the RFP and the website also played their part.  There were 5 regular Rossie Ramblers walkers, so we were well outnumbered, which was lovely.

As promised, David took us through the quarry towards Haslingden Old Road and up the Shoe Trail towards the Halo, before doing a clockwise walk around Cribden.  We then headed to the top of the Ski Slope before returning down a similar path back to the pub, returning at 9.04.  The views were superb all the way, and 14 people enjoyed a social drink in the pub beer garden afterwards.  Many thanks to David for a very successful 4.5 mile walk with 800 feet of ascent, and to all those who joined us.

The next short walk in the series is on Thursday 21 June, starting from Haslingden Cricket Club.  Further details will be on the website in due course.
