Thornton in Craven, long 05-07-2017 Leader – Jean

Nineteen of us left the car park at Thornton Hall farm for the ‘long walk’.

We went through Thornton in Craven and joined the Pennine Way, climbing over Thornton Moor and up to Pinhaw Beacon, the highest point of the day. We continued to follow the Pennine Way, down to the village of Lothersdale, and we enjoyed our lunch in the park. After lunch, we followed the road out of the village, then along the bridleway towards Raygill Fisheries. Then it was climbing again, through Raygal farm, Bent Laithe farm, and then over the road to join Stanridge Clough lane. We followed this bridleway back to Earby. The Pendle way was our next path, taking us back to Thornton Hall Farm.

At the farm, we joined up with the shorter walk people for tea and scones in the cafe.

Distance – 10.55 miles    Ascent 508 metres
