Clowbridge pub walk 21-02-2026 – leader Arnold

Having reccied this walk 3 times already. Harry was probably quite pleased that he was not able to do it today, so yours truly took over and got the credit for a beautifully scenic walk in lovely warm and sunny weather.

16 walkers and 2 dogs set off from the New Waggoners along the busy A682, before turning off to the right, passing a house with a large carved wooden bear behind Lower Nutshaw Farm – very interesting for me today, as we normally approach from the other way, so it looked very different.

From here we started a gentle climb – which became increasingly steep – with wonderful views of Clowbridge reservoir and the surrounding countryside – to the Weather Station (golf ball) on top of Hameldon Hill.  From here we crossed open moorland, passing near Black Hill and then down towards the A682 and northbound back to the New Waggoners.  Quite a few stiles were encountered and conquered along the way, with plenty of help but no mishaps.

At the end of the walk we had to wait until the New Waggoners had space for us, but 15 went in, and 14 – including Harry – sat down to a splendid meal at this very successful pub.  Because we had to wait, the chat was even more extended than usual, so it made a great day even better.  So thanks to Harry and John for coming up with the route, to Glyn for back marking, and to all who came for their lovely company.
