Ogden Water Country Park – 19/08/2026 – Leader Stephen D
18 walkers gathered at Ogden Water Country Park which is a few miles north of Halifax. The day started off dry and bright as we walked down through the woods and along the reservoir path offering occasional glimpses of the half empty reservoir. It was up and down through Ogden Clough and steeply up a rocky staircase onto the open moor, the heather looking resplendent in its purple cloak. Glimpses to our right showed Thornton Moor Reservoir but better views to our left showed Leeming Reservoir and Oxenhope beyond, although we could see the...

Sorry to be a nuisance, but a couple of our 7 inch Deby Encore plates – pictured – have gone missing. We are not aware of any plates being broken, so perhaps someone has inadvertently taken something back with them on one of these plates. We do use them regularly, so if anyone has one, then please let me know at sampson.arnold@gmail.com and we can arrange collection.

The featured image is of those Bring & Buy items that have not been bought, and will be going to a charity shop today. Also left – and not something that we want to buy – are 3 Brewdog black stouts and a pack of 4 Guinness. If anyone wants to claim these, please email me at sampson.arnold@gmail.com, and I will somehow arrange to return them. If nobody claims them, they will be wasted, which would be a shame. For information, the final amount raised at the event is £205, which has been donated to the North West Air...

13 lovely Ramblers met at Ball Grove Park, the start point for walking the East Colne Way with an extra twiddle. After all our glorious and frequently too hot weather of recent weeks, it was quite pleasant to have a cool start to the day, but people were a little surprised that I was setting off in shorts and a sleeveless blouse. Tom and I had discovered a different route out of the park, so we followed that to strike north (aka up) to the road and soon gained the ‘green lungs’ of Colne, to follow the footpath markers of East...

Maureen and Arnold hosted another very successful and enjoyable Rossie Ramblers social event despite, or because of, the change of name and content to a Garden Party. Talk about hosts with the most, but they are also grateful for others contributions, such as preparing and bringing food, supporting the Bring and Buy, washing up, clearing tables, and putting garden furniture away at the end. Yet again, Rossie Ramblers team work at its best. Credit also to Steve S for the beautiful new patio area which was put to good use, and for all the...

On a lovely sunny morning 21 Rossie Ramblers arrived in the picturesque village of Gargrave, tucked in the southern edge of the Yorkshire Dales. After our customary photograph we set off from the outskirts of the village before joining a quiet lane (Pennine Way) leading up to the footpath to Airton. Soon after joining this pathway one of our lady walkers was seen rooting around on the floor, being helped by others. From a distance it looked like somebody was in distress. Well, she was, as her earring had popped out and unfortunately could...
