Pub walk from Summerseat 04-04-2026 – leader Malcolm

A balmy morning ahead of storm Dave saw 24 walkers and 5 dogs turn out this morning, including Nicola – a friend of Gerrie – plus Amy & Nathan, who were all out for their first walk with us.  As ever, they were made very welcome, and we hope to see then again soon.  Also in the group was adrenaline junkie Ellen, probably our newest actual member, who was by no means put off by her first walk with us a couple of weeks ago 🙂

From the Hamers it was up Robin Road, then along the side of Holcombe Brook, with the waterfall in full flow, to the end of Woodhey Road, where the featured photo was taken.  By the time we had walked a few yards up Woodhey Road, we had passed houses that a couple of our walkers had lived in.  After carefully crossing Bolton Road West, we walked past the smart newish housing development on the site of the old exhaust factory – but we were certainly not exhausted.  

Into Redisher Woods for a little while, then over the brook to walk up Redisher Lane with its smart houses, to cross Bolton Road again at some conveniently-placed road works traffic lights.  A path was then taken down the side of a housing estate, with extensive fields to our right.  A right turn followed by a left took us over a stile onto a very muddy path alongside Greenmout Golf Course.  Further on our lengthy progress seemed to annoy some golfers who had to delay their shots – shame!!  Some members spotted Judy’s Joe, who waved to them – at least they THOUGHT it was a wave.

After the golf course it was past Holly Mount primary school and down a path at the side of the golf course again, past some new housing that seems to have sprung up very rapidly.  After that it was plain sailing down Shepherd Street, across Brandlesholme Road and a couple of fields to cross Longsight Road near the tennis club, and on to the pub.

A handful of the group left us here, but 18 went in to enjoy teas, coffees, beer and very nice food – all the while chatting away 19 to the dozen.  Talking about 19, Maureen also joined us for the meal and the chat.  A lovely end to a lovely walk, thanks to Malcolm, to back marker Glyn, and to all our friends who were out with us today.  A Happy Easter to all.
