Ingleborough – 13/05/26 – Leader Graeme

17 walkers arrived at Clapham, despite a mixed weather forecast, for an ascent of Ingleborough.

The initial part of the walk was leaving Clapham via a gradually ascending track to the farm at Clapdale where we had our first shower of the day before descending to the path at Clapdale Drive which we followed past the entrance to Ingleborough Cave.

Shortly after that we took our elevenses at the bottom of Trow Gill. The walk up Trow Gill with it’s slippery limestone rocks was negotiated without incident. We then had our second shower with a bit of hail thrown in but that was it for the day!

Our route then took us to Gaping Gill where a large contingent of tents were pitched which seemed to belong to Bradford Pothole group who were setting up a bosun’s chair down into Gaping Gill…….and then it was the long climb up to Little Ingleborough….it’s a slog and for some it necessitated a few stops for breath.

From Little Ingleborough there was still a short sharp climb up onto Ingleborough but we soon made it onto the summit plateau. Trig photos and lunch followed before we began our descent, which initially needed a bit of care before we picked up the Dales High Way for our return to Clapham via Sulber and Long Scar.

Well done and thank you to everyone who turned up and did the walk.

The weather was far better than we expected as the afternoon brought bright sunshine.
