Sunday 16th August – East Colne Way

Sunday 16th August – East Colne Way

On Sunday 16th August, Gill (07791 086395) and Tom will lead a 6 mile grade 2 walk from Ball Grove Park in Colne.

The walk will start at 10 am from the free car park off Ball Grove Drive. SD908403; N53°51?35? (53.859595), W02°08?25? (-2.1402429); What3Words averages.scrambles.glorified; postcode BB8 7HY gets you close. See red pin on map below.

The basis for the walk is the East Colne Circular, but as that is only 5 miles long, Gill’s added a twiddle at the end (or the beginning, depending on how she feels on the day). It’s a lovely route, in familiar territory. There are great views of the surrounding countryside, with some hills that you should recognise, and there’s a bit of history thrown in. Total ascent a mere 699 ft.

Hazards: two crossings of the busy A6068, some muddy sections maybe! The stiles are generally very easy to get over, and there are a lot of small gates rather than stiles.

We should be back at our cars by 1:30 to 2:00.  The pace will be gentle, with a stop for early lunch.  Please bring waterproofs, boots or walking shoes, drinks, and a snack. The Lakeside café should be open for refreshments at the end of the walk.

This walk is free, but after 3 walks with us you are asked to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.58 per month for an individual, or £4.83 for joint membership.

Please note the following important points:

  • Prior booking is mandatory via this link. This enables walk leaders to organise their walk, in line with the number attending.

  • Each individual walker must be on a separate booking, but if a walker does not have an email address, a friend or family member can book them on using their own email.

  • Booking closes one hour before the walk starts.

If you have any queries about coming on this walk, please contact the walk leader on the number above. If you have booked on and are unable to attend, please inform the walk leader before the start of the walk.

Safety: We very much welcome new walkers with us, but would ask you to contact the leader beforehand to discuss the demands of the walk and what you need to bring. If you are at all unsure of your capabilities, then we suggest you try one of our shorter walks – see Walks Schedule for details.  Please note our safeguarding policy regarding children and vulnerable adults, and note also that dogs are only allowed on our 2 hour pub walks.

This map is very interactive – you can move the map around, zoom in or out, or click ‘View larger map’ for printing and/or getting directions.
