Sunday 18th October – Stoodley Pike the Easy Way

On Sunday 18th October, Alex  (07871-588924) will lead a grade 2 walk of 6 miles with  total ascent of 741 feet. The walk will start at 10.00am, Parking on the road in front of The United Methodist Chapel and Cemetary, Mankinholes Bank, Lumbutts. OL14 6JA. SD956234, 53.707394 , -2.0670599, 53°42?27?N , 002°04?01?W, What 3 Words: sleepers.booster.newlyweds. Red pin on the map below.

As we start half way up the hill from Calderdale this is really an easy ascent, on good paths, gaining the height very gradually over 3 miles.
The walk heads along the grandly named London Road, really a track and bridleway. We follow this for a couple of miles below Stoodley Pike before turning back toward the Pike which we reach after more than 3 miles.
After a break there, we head along the edge to The Withens Gate where we start the descent along The Calderdale Way on a very good path, a former packhorse route that takes us back to the cars.
The Top Brink Inn is just round the corner and should be open for those requiring refreshment and/or food after the walk.

This walk is free, but after 3 walks with us you are asked to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.75 per month for an individual, or £5.08 for joint membership.

Please note the following important points:

  • Prior booking is mandatory via this link. This enables walk leaders to organise their walk in line with the number attending.

  • Booking closes one hour before the walk starts.
  • If you have any queries about coming on this walk, please contact the walk leader on the number above.  If you have booked on and are unable to attend, please inform the walk leader before the start of the walk.

Safety: We very much welcome new walkers with us, but if you are unsure about your ability to do the walk, then please contact the leader beforehand to discuss the demands of the walk and what you need to bring.  Also please note our safeguarding policy regarding children and vulnerable adults.
