Holcombe Village 21-06-2026 Leader Sue

11 walkers gathered in Holcombe village and set off up an old cobbled lane where we had a start photo taken outside a former pub called The White Hart which had closed in 1884. We had to be quiet, as the bedroom window was open and the curtains were closed! We skirted Peel Tower  hill admiring the far reaching views over to Manchester and beyond and also Winter Hill to reach Red Brook where we had a rehydration stop and jelly baby hand out. From here we now skirted Quarlton Heights to reach a road which had led to the old maggot farm, with a very tight squeeze through a gate post and a stone post! From here we took the paved path over Black Moss to Bull Hill, where we took our lunch stop. After a photo at the trig point, we headed down to Pilgrims Cross then along another paved path to Harcles Hill where we turned off before the summit and headed down to reach a metalled road before joining a track up to the tower. It was here that John and Snipper Steve left to go to the tower and the rest of us went back to Holcombe village where 7 of us enjoyed refreshments at the Shoulder of Mutton.
