Saturday 15 August – Annual Garden Party

Saturday 15 August – Annual Garden Party

Maureen and Arnold hosted another very successful and enjoyable Rossie Ramblers social event despite, or because of, the change of name and content to a Garden Party. Talk about hosts with the most, but they are also grateful for others contributions, such as preparing and bringing food, supporting the Bring and Buy, washing up, clearing tables, and putting garden furniture away at the end. Yet again, Rossie Ramblers team work at its best. Credit also to Steve S for the beautiful new patio area which was put to good use, and for all the effort put into the garden by Maureen and Arnold – an incentive always helps!

Favourite moments include everyone dressed up and not in walking clothes (special award to Malc), people present from all the different walks and catching up with some missing recent walks, all relaxed chatting and swapping stories/memories and getting to know others they haven’t walked with, and tucking into the most delicious food (and drink). Most especially, Rocky Ramblers entertained us very well despite a few missing members, augmented by compere Robert and his incredible memory. Absentees missed a treat.

Arguably the best quote of the day when his phone rang (in the middle of the Rocky Ramblers performance), “Sorry I can’t talk now, I’m in the middle of a concert”!

Comments from those on Sunday’s walk the following day include, “lucky with the weather”, “fantastic spread of food”, “lovely house and garden”, “I so enjoyed it”, “I’m still full from all that wonderful food”, “Such great company, I really feel I’m with friends”.

Many, many thanks to Maureen and Arnold, and to all who came and made this a special afternoon.

Final quote, apparently addressed to Maureen, “Great day. Same time, same place next year?”  We all hope so!

A lovely afternoon, with lots of friendly chatter, wonderful food, a musical CONCERT, not forgetting a ditty or two and entertainment by Robert.
At Rossendale Ramblers, we are very fortunate to be hosted yet again by Arnold and Maureen in their beautiful garden with the added bonus of Arnies Arms. Thank you both.

A lovely write up and lovely pics of a truly lovely day – many thanks, Judy. Maureen and I definitely agree with Judy about all the lovely food that people brought – the featured pic says it all – and for the magnificent effort on the washing up, tidying up, and bringing the chairs and tables down from the garden, making our lives so much easier. Next year? Certainly, if -as my mother would say – “God spares us”.

The Bring & Buy has raised somewhere towards £200, we think – brilliant. Are we splitting it between Air Ambulance and Mountain Rescue?? Please let me know.
