Summerseat – 01/03/2026 – Leader Malcolm

On a slightly overcast morning 12 ramblers gathered at Summerseat Garden Centre for a walk around the area all of us having different weather forecasts. We had a surprise visit from Roy who is still receiving treatment we wish him all the best and a speedy return to full fitness. We left the memorial stone masons having our group photo taken and then followed the path across the ELR and climbing towards Walmersley Road and forcing ourselves past Falshaw’s wonderful ice cream emporium. We crossed Walmersley Old Road and Bury Old Road passing the empty Lord Raglan and made our way to Grants Tower, now a ruin built in 1828 the last person to live there was Edwin Waugh the Poet. On our way down through a Farm a cat adopted Roger and it wasn’t until Alyson picked the cat up, moving it in the direction away from Roger which enabled Roger to carry on. Lunch was enjoyed in Nuttall park and then a short trek over to Summerseat via the nutts to Summerseat and our cars.
