Wednesday 2nd September – Embsay With Eastby

On Wednesday 2nd September, Stephen (07761 453349) will lead a 9.5-mile Grade 3 walk with 1,473ft total ascent starting at 10.00am from Main St. Car Park, Embsay with Eastby, Embsay, North Yorkshire.  Postcode BD23 6RE.  Grid Ref: NGR: SE009538 – What3Words – elect.works.firming – 53.980580 , -1.9869516 – 53°58?50?N , 001°59?13?W.  If car park is full, park where you can in the village and meet in the car park.

From the car park we will walk through fields to a road, then passing Embsay Reservoir to begin a steep climb to the summit of Crookrise Crag Top (415m =1,361ft) summit with trig point giving superb views over the whole area. There follows a downhill stretch battling through ferns, crossing Waterfall Gill Beck and an ascent up the following side to reach a moorland road.  Then we endure a 4-mile trudge along an easy, level-ish moorland path giving stunning views to reach a metalled road at the other end, which we walk along a short distance to tackle a shorter, less steep hill to reach the summit with trig point of High Crag (Halton Heights at 357m = 1,171ft). The rest of the walk is a level path across the moors then a steep downhill stretch to the village of Eastby,  passing through a farm and back up the main street to the car park. See red pin on map below.

This walk is free, but after 3 walks with us you are asked to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.75 per month for an individual, or £5.08 for joint membership.
