The Chew Valley Edges Part 2 – The Trinnacle
14 Ramblers met at Dovestones Car Park on a glorious sunny day which turned out to be quite warm at times.
Sue handed out cakes for breakfast c/o her birthday today. She was thanked and wished happy birthday in return.
The walk started by following the three reservoirs, Dovestone, Yeoman Hey and Greenfield before our first break on the rocks at the bottom of Birchen Clough.
It was then onwards and upwards scrambling alongside the stream. We were lucky that water levels were low and the rocks dry. Nevertheless all handled the climb well and we had no untoward incidents.
A short muddy climb brought us to the Trinnacle a spectacular rock formation which the pictures will testify.
Continuing along the edges we came to the memorial to James Platt MP, who died in a shooting accident hereabouts https://en. wikipedia.org/wiki/James_ Platt_(MP)
Passing the Ashway Stone we stopped for lunch at some rather breezy rocks which some of us found shelter behind. After lunch it was more edges to eventually reach the Chew Road which was followed downwards before breaking off to join the Oldham Way/GM Ringway, passing through fields and bouldery woodland to another short descent and a road back to the Car Park.
This time there was an ice cream van which was soon accompanied by a queue of ramblers.
Thanks to all, Including “the Steves”
