Wednesday 4th November – Wigan & Standish
On Wednesday 4th November, Stephen (0776 1453349) will lead a 10.7 mile walk starting at 10.00am from Hall Lane, Haigh, Wigan. WN1 2SG (nearest postcode) Grid Ref: SD591078 – 53.565509 , -2.6179487 – 53°33?56?N , 002°37?05?W. What3Words:slices.organs.handed. Red pin on the map below.

Park halfway up the lane at its widest point.

This is a reversal of the walk I did in June, through woodland, on dismantled railways, country lanes, canal towpaths and some busy roads to cross. The walk goes along the canal to Red Rocks, continues up to Wigan Golf Club, Arley Wood and Worthington Lakes. Then to Standish Lower Ground, Bunny Wood, Beech Walk, Elnup Woods, Giants Hall and Gidlow Cemetery. Should be good with the Autumn colours as there is plenty of woodland but also with some fallen trees to negotiate (nothing tricky) Gaiters advised.

This walk is free, but after 3 walks with us you are asked to join The Ramblers, at a cost of only £3.75 per month for an individual, or £5.08 for joint membership.

Please note the following important points:

  • Prior booking is mandatory via this link. This enables walk leaders to organise their walk in line with the number attending.
  • Each individual walker must be on a separate booking, but if a walker does not have an email address, a friend or family member can book them on using their own email.
  • Booking closes one hour before the walk starts.
  • If you have any queries about coming on this walk, please contact the walk leader on the number above.  If you have booked on and are unable to attend, please inform the walk leader before the start of the walk.

Safety: We very much welcome new walkers with us, but if you are unsure about your ability to do the walk, then please contact the leader beforehand to discuss the demands of the walk and what you need to bring.  Also please note our safeguarding policy regarding children and vulnerable adults.
