Wycoller 30-09-2026 – leader Ian
15 ramblers meet at the Lancashire Moor Car Park next to the Atom panopticon on the road to Howarth at Wycoller.
The walk was relatively strenuous taking us past Fosters Leap and along a section of the Bronte Way before climbing up Pot Brinks Moor to Boulsworth Hill. We visited the Lad Law trig point as well as Great Saucer Stones and the Abbot Stone. Descending towards Fence Moor the group walked back to Wycoller Village through pretty copse and farmland crossing the Clam Bridge and passing the remains of Wycoller Hall before climbing back up the hill to the Atom.
Although initially wet and misty requiring waterproofs, by elevenses the weather had cleared revealing a remarkably sunny and warm day for the time of year with tremendous views from the top of the hill. The walk was a little boggy in places and we successfully used and improved a neglected path thanks to Steve and his snippers!
We welcomed Catherine to her first walk with Rossendale Ramblers and were pleased to see David re-joining us after his break.
Many thanks to Vince for the photographs, David and Sue for back-marking, and everyone who came along given the weather initially looked unfavourable!
The walk covered approximately 9 miles, with just over 1,800 feet of ascent.

Great pics Vince, espevially the one with you on the bridge! Had’nt realised how much “snipping” Steve had to do on tgat bridge. Thanks Ian for a good walk and gettingvthe sun to shine.
Another twitcher is born. Great photo of the Heron Vince.
Think it may have been the same heron that Steve D photographed earlier this year. One more appearance and it will have to join the Ramblers.
Brilliant 🙂
Thanks for a great if slightly strenuous walk. Great to have David back with us.
Great to be back. Fantastic photos Vince.
Thanks Ian.
